Carla Tiefenbacher

Carla Tiefenbacher is a research associate at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Cologne. She is currently conducting her doctoral research on the history and present of the Catholic Church in the Spanish-Moroccan borderlands. Her research forms part of project on (Digital) Publics and Social transformation in Morocco at the CRC 'Media of Cooperation', directed by Martin Zillinger. Carla's MA thesis investigated contemporary archival practices among the last Spanish colonizers of Northern Morocco as testimonies to the interwoven afterlives of colonialism and Francoism.
Carla holds interdisciplinary degrees in “Culture and Environment in Africa” (University of Cologne, MA), and and Liberal Arts and Sciences (University of Freiburg, BA hons). Her research interests include Science and Technology Studies (STS), and anthropologies of religion, memory, security, conflict and reconciliation. Carla is a trained mediator and grief counsellor.
